Marko Antonio Naranjo, a student in the Master's Programme in Sociology of Law, received the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum Director's Award for his performance during his internship in the autumn semester of 2022. The Museum director gives the accolade to volunteers and interns who make special contributions to promoting the memory of Auschwitz.

"I feel that this recognition is not just for me but also for the Sociology of Law Department as well. Without the help of all of you who form the department and Sweden, I would have not been able to be there," Naranjo said.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum was created in 1946 by former prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp, acting on behalf of Poland's Ministry of Culture and Art. For his internship, Naranjo worked at the premises of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp in Oswiecim, Poland, reconstructing the identity of former prisoners and deportees based on the archival data of the Museum and the Arolsen Archives in Bad Arolsen, Germany. Naranjo met former prisoners of Auschwitz and attended seminars at the Museum, covering topics such as Medicine in Auschwitz and the Ethics of the Perpetrators. After his internship, Naranjo has remained an active volunteer at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
