In October last year, the Sociology of Law Department's researcher and senior lecturer Patrik Olsson was invited to a conference in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent to contribute with expertise on the country's social and political development.

On October 24, 2024, an international conference on the topic "Development of Free Civil Society and Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations" was held in Tashkent as part of the International Cooperation Initiatives Week.

Patrik Olsson, a senior lecturer in the Sociology of Law Department and researcher in the project "Multilevel Orders of Corruption in Central Asia”, participated by invitation of the Tashkent State University of Law and the Ministry of Justice in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan's reforms of democratic development were brought to the attention. In particular, the fundamental changes in civil society, and the country's achievements in terms of openness and transparency.

"A common denominator in all discussions, presentations and meetings was the progress of anti-corruption and rule of law work and the various mechanisms attached to this area," said Olsson. "Uzbekistan is rapidly changing form in terms of living quality, infrastructure, transparency, modernization, the political landscape and openness to mention some aspects concerning the daily life for Uzbeks."

The event was covered by the information program of the state-owned Uzbek National Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "O'ZBEKISTON 24".
